@inquiline I bet you’d like tilde.zone
thanks. i am ideally looking for something bigger/well-federated and kinda identity-less, but it's good to know you're happy there

I want everyone, especially journalists, to notice the silence of the tech execs about this. This includes people like Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg whose recent blog posts talk about balancing the benefits and harms of "AI", and don't include Doomer scenarios among the harms.
They are complicit in the misinforming of the public. They are complicit in stoking everyone's fear. They reap the benefits of the Doomer narrative because it is their narrative.

@emilymbender Honestly I am kinda hoping the efforts to loose legislators land at "Okay, we have to regulate it as if it's going to kill us all", because i the narrative (bullshit as it may be) is 'this has a 10% chance to kill everyone in the next 10 years" - then it's more dangerous than a nuke, and they just, like... giving it to random people? to literal children?
Legislators who actually *believe* this narrative & regulate it as if it were really that dangerous would be a fitting outcome.

A thing I always admired, the way he reacted to a woman he was attracted to. His face just *morphed* into a face of utter delight.
He wouldn't say a thing. But his face would just *light* *up*, and the person in question just knew. I saw him flirt many times, and it always started with that face.
I remember a time, at the gas station, him and 3 or 4 guys, and a rather spectacularly attractive woman was getting her car filled up with gas, and all the guys were pretty much agape.
And she left. No wolf-whistles, or any of that shit. She just got her gas and drove off.
And the guys are all sitting there.
And he says, "Well. You know. If you *like* that sort of thing."
I watched these grown-up men just fucking *fall* *out* laughing.

Electrek: Tesla Autopilot was on in I-35 crash that killed its driver
"...A 2024 Tesla Model Y ran off Interstate 35 in rural Missouri, struck a guardrail, and killed its driver, a 64-year-old woman from Raymore. Troopers reported a single-vehicle wreck and said the car “went off the road.”
What they didn’t say, and likely didn’t know, is that Tesla’s own report to federal regulators says the car’s driver-assist system was engaged. This is part of an ongoing Electrek investigation matching reported crashes to Tesla’s redacted NHTSA data...."

"So why did they all come out of the woodwork on the day the Nazi died?"
My father was very good with humorous language. He was the center of a group of men, working men, and he would go hang out sometimes at his son-in-law's--Eddie was actually his best friend at the time--gas station.
He'd sit in the tiny back room of the gas station, and guys would come by for gas, but stop in, cuz Harry was there, and have a few beers.

And surprise surprise.

Looking at the ads, it appears he is ramping up the ads targeting Dems who already caved.

May I ask how you managed to make the walking on window titles work? Do you use a specific Wayland protocol to query the window geometries? Is that the hacky part?
@jcm Wayland doesn't know about this, I have to ask the compositor. I use sway, so I just call get_tree a bunch, parse it, and treat every rectangle top as a walkable floor.
I support this proposal. I could also support many variations on the theme. Kudos to the 10 co-authors.

The gold, green, bronze, hybrid... labels were never a systematic classification. They evolved like the winding streets in the center of an old city. Plus, they're opaque and widely misunderstood.
